A weekend away
Do you recognize the top picture? That’s the hotel that was Stephen King’s inspiration when he wrote The Shining. It’s also the place the mini-series was filmed. The hotel at the bottom? Not a good picture, granted, but that’s where we stayed when we visited the Poconos over the weekend. Creepy resemblance, isn’t it? Every time we drove down the side of the mountain and saw glimpses of it through the trees, it kind of freaked me out a little. Thankfully, there were no crazy hotel caretakers in sight.
It really is a beautiful resort. It’s right on the banks of the Delaware River and we had a great view of the river from our room. We were also happily surprised to find turn-down service each evening, which even included cookies from the bakery. The kids had a great time swimming in the hotel pool and exploring a nearby waterfall. And we got to catch up with some friends we haven’t seen in many years.
We lived in the Poconos for a while and we always wondered why so many people went there to vacation. Now that we live in an area of PA that’s largely flat farmland, I can kind of see what draws people. The scenery is very pretty and now that Spring has arrived the greens were so bright and vibrant. Everything was in bloom and looked gorgeous. Here are some of the pictures I took on Saturday.

Beautiful photos!
I would love to take my girls there – they’d love it!
Besides being crafty, and a great cook/baker, you are such a good photographer. I wish I could take such great photos. Hopefully after my photo course in July I’ll be better…
Does look pretty, and the photos are lovely.
Tracey – Thanks. We enjoyed ourselves but the kids really loved getting up close and personal with that waterfall.
Lonely Scrapbooker – You are very sweet. Sometimes I just get lucky with the photos.
