Starting Out Sideways by Mary E. Mitchell

April 13, 2009

Listening month after month to Shell talk up the joys of her book club I must admit I was a bit envious. So, when our brother-in-law asked if I’d like to join his new book club I jumped at the chance. I don’t devour books like he and Shell do but I do enjoy a good read. That’s exactly what I got with Starting Out Sideways by Mary E. Mitchell.

Many of the themes in this book, while seemingly far-fetched, actually reflected some real-life happenings in our extended family. I found it amusing, touching and full of the kind of crazy love that allows us to proudly lay claim to our relatives even when they are profoundly nuts.

My book club agreed. This one got a thumbs up all the way around.

I’ll have to check this out. Yes, extended family… Nuts! But I’m sure they think that I am too, so it all evens out.

Ingrid and Farmer Gal – Bea recommending this has earned it a spot on my reading list too.
