Put a lid on it

It’s Eco-Friendly Friday!

The next time you’re boiling a pot of water, put a lid on it.  Not only will your water boil faster, but you’ll save energy too.  Using a lid when cooking reduces the amount of heat escaping from your pot.  Of course we all know that.  If you keep that heat contained, you shorten the cooking time, thereby reducing the amount of energy needed to cook your food.  It’s good for you and the environment!

    This is so true. Keeping the lid on, or even with a slight gap, you can keep the burner on really low and still maintain a simmer or boil. That saves loads of gas! Plus, in a small kitchen like mine, it really reduces the amount of moisture that would otherwise get in your cabinets – not good. Great tip! I love your environmental posts!

    We make a cookie like this in my house, they are alot of work but my kids love them. I think mine call for cherry flavoring as well and I think we use butter, but I will have to check. Yup some of these cookies are too much work but we only make them once a year at Christmas!

    I went home on Friday and hollered at my honey to put a lid on the pot of water he was trying to boil! :)
