A last-minute decorating tip

December 19, 2009

It’s Eco-Friendly Friday!

And since there’s still a little time before Christmas, I wanted to share a great idea for decorating with used plastic gallon jugs.

We saw this on the way home from a basketball game the other night, but I didn’t have my camera to stop for a picture.  Instead, you’ll have to use your imagination I guess.

First, you need the old-fashioned large outdoor lights and as many rinsed out gallon jugs as you want.  What we saw was enough to line someone’s driveway, and it looked awesome.  You can fill the bottom of the jugs with some water to keep them from blowing away.  Next, just insert a bulb into the neck of each one and secure it with electrical tape.  When the lights are turned on, the whole jug lights up and you have a really cute light display.

You could line your driveway or your whole yard.  So bright and festive.  And a fun way to reuse that plastic!

Can you go back and get a photo? LOL, just kidding! I’m assuming that the light bulbs don’t get hot enough to burn the plastic.
