Away in a Manger

December 21, 2009

Would you look at this sweet Nativity?  So adorable, and made with just a few things you can find at the craft store.  Sam made this last year for Grandy.  Isn’t it adorable?  We bought all the wooden pieces in the aisle of the craft store loaded with individual and small bags of unfinished wooden pieces.  The felt and jute were in our craft box, but you can buy those at the craft store too.  (You can also do this craft using terra cotta flower pots and using a terra cotta saucer for the baby’s bed.)

Here’s what you need:

2 small wooden flower pots

2 small wooden balls

1 half of a wooden flower pot  (There are small bags that have a few wooden flower pot halves inside.  We used one of those.)

1 wooden game piece

acrylic craft paints

felt scraps

hot glue gun

Paint all the wooden pieces and let dry.  Assemble Mary and Joseph by gluing the round balls onto the upside-down flower pots.  Add faces with permanent marker.  Glue on a felt square and tie a piece of jute around their heads.  For baby Jesus, wrap a piece of felt around painted game piece and draw face.  Cut some pieces of jute and separate them into shreds.  Glue into the 1/2 of flower pot for the straw; add the baby.

So cute and I love that your son made it. Makes it that much more special.
