Valentine lollipops and an award

Valentine Lollipops

I’ve seen these cute lollipops all over, but until we got snowed in for the SECOND time in under a week, I hadn’t given much thought to making them.  As it happened, I had candy canes left in the pantry from Christmas and this seemed to be a great use for them.

I thought this was going to be so quick and easy, but it ended up being a big pain in the butt.  I arranged the candy canes on a silpat sheet and baked them in a 300 degree oven until the candy got soft.  After you remove the tray from the oven, you need to quickly insert a lollipop stick and squeeze the bottoms of the candy canes together to hold the stick in place.  It’s hot!  And the candy cooled so stinking fast that I only got 6 of these lollipops to even work.  We melted some candy melts and filled the middles, and Sam sprinkled them with colored sugars and jimmies.  They did turn out pretty cute, eh?  But not cute enough for me to want to mess with it again!

So, let’s talk about the award!

You know what I love?  How extremely kind and gracious this blogging world is!  I’ve “met” so many great people and have felt wonderful kindness coming at me from out in the big wide world.  Earlier this week, Katrina from being30something gave me this award!  I love her blog… even though I’m now a 40something.  {smile!}   Thank you, Katrina!

I’m supposed to share 7 things about myself.  Hmm.  Let’s see…

  1. I’m a morning person.
  2. I hate feet.  Weird, maybe, but there it is.
  3. Remember Laverne & Shirley?   I loved it as a kid and used to drink milk and Pepsi like Laverne.  Think of a melted Pepsi float.
  4. I talk to one of my sisters or my mom every single day.  Sometimes all of them.  I just wish I was close enough to do it in person instead.
  5. I love volunteering in the library at my kids’ school.  It makes me downright giddy.
  6. Adoption has changed my life in ways I could never have imagined, and I thank God for that gift every day.
  7. I wish I would get my scrapbooking mojo back so I would feel inspired to get back to it.

And now for passing this fun award on to some other bloggers.  I really enjoy following these blogs and hope you like them too…

Congrats on your award. My mom used to make us milk and Coke drinks. That way we were still getting in our dairy but we thought we were getting the real thing. I hated them as a kid but now I love it!

    cute lollipops!

These lollipops are so sweet, sorry to hear they were a pain in the butt! They look so darn innocent. I like how they are floating on their cotton cloud. Thanks for sharing those wonderful things about yourself.

Lots of folks getting a lot done in the kitchen thanks to Mother Nature.

We’re foster parents, by the way, and totally agree with your thoughts on adoption. Game changer for sure.

Congrats on your award! All the snow you guys are getting up there is crazy but at least you found things to keep you busy. These lollipops turned out adorable! I bet Sam really enjoyed being able to help as well!

I think I still have candy canes in the pantry too. Cute idea to use those up!

Congrats on the well-deserved award! I can’t get on board with the pepsi float but I am not a big fan of feet either. I totally get that.
