A Little About Me

This little blog of mine has seen a few transformations since its beginning.  It started out as a joint venture with my sister, who quickly decided that keeping up with a blog wasn’t for her.  Somehow, she knew it was gonna be right up my alley though, and she was right.  I surprised myself by dipping my toes in the big blogging ocean and loving it enough to jump in with both feet.

I call it One Ordinary Day because it’s a perfect name for what I hope you’ll find here.  Things that happen during one ordinary day in my life.  Most of the time, that means things that come out of my kitchen, but through those recipes and stories, you’ll get a glimpse of my day.  My family.  My passions.  Me.  And when I come across something I can’t resist, I’ll share that too.

You’ll also find a couple extra pages here that focus on two things that are important to me ~ going green and reading.  I’ve been called a “treehugger” and I consider that a compliment.  I’m certainly not as green as I should or could be, but I try, and working on Going Green Tips has really helped.  Some things are just common sense and others are things you might not have thought of.  Even if you change your habits in one or two ways, you’re on the right track to helping give the next generation a better world to live in.

And as for reading, Jim jokingly calls me a “book snob,” but I like that too.  I love coming across a book that broadens my world or makes me see things in a new way.  You’ll find an ever-growing list of the books I’ve read in 2010 at What I’m Reading.  It’s a pretty eclectic list.  Some of those I’ve shared with a book club I host at our local library, but most I’ve enjoyed on my own.  I get positively giddy when a find a book I love and can tell someone about it.

Now you know what to expect from my little blog.  I hope you’ll find something that keeps you coming back!

~ Michelle

Hiya! Love the concept. My sister lives in NYC and I’m in Chicago, and we talk on the phone every day…if not multiple times a day! Isn’t it great to have a built-in best friend? :)

Oh what a lovely idea. My sister and i each have our own blog–both about food too. Of course she was lazy ;) and dropped it for a while and has recently come back so I suppose we would have killed each other had we tried something like this, but still. Love the concept!

I don’t have sisters or even any children at home any more but i do live in PA (the Poconos, maybe you’ve heard of it) and I love to cook and especially bake. A mutual friend pointed out this blog to me and i can’t wait to try some of the recipes and maybe even pass along some of my own. It’s a great idea. Thanks for doing this.

I didn’t realize that Bea had abandoned you. No worries. The blog is awesome. I love it!
BTW, I meant to say: sorry for nagging you about the scrapbooking! I didn’t realize I was doing that. This happens to me all the time. I have a little control freak side to my personality (well, some might say not so little).
Truth is, when the urge finally reaches you, you’ll do it, but that kind of stuff, you just have to FEEL it to do it. I know when my mojo’s gone there is nothing that could make me do a page. Then again, the last time my urge to SB was gone what got me back was that I had committed to do my sister’s wedding album, and she was pressuring me to get it done. Hmmm, so maybe nagging does work… . LOL don’t worry, when it’s time it’s time. And you’ll love it when you do.
In the meantime, I am adoring your posts on food and the odd other topic.

What I like about all your recipes is that they are not these 10 step difficult things that I try to cook but fail because lets face it… I’m not the best cook. But I do rock the cute pink apron any time I get the chance.

Keep up the good work and fabulous pictures!

I am Sandra from the Netherlands and I was searching for a beautiful photo of banana icecream, which I needed to complete a recipe (I’m not a very good photographer myself). I googled and saw your photo of the roasted banana ice cream and that looks delicious! Your recipe will be somewhat different than mine, I guess. Do you make it with an icemakermachine?

Is it possible to use your picture and send me a high resolution (it’s for a magazin for people with incontinence problems). Of course, I’ll mention your name.

It would help me a lot.

    Hoping to hear from you,

I saved a copy of your recipe and photos to my computer before I saw your request to ask first. I’m sorry. Hope you are OK with it.

Way back in the 60’s I made a Santa and Reindeer bread when my girls were little. I believe the recipe was in a Good Housekeeping magazine. Believe it or not, I have it in storage somewhere but don’t know where. So, I went searching online for another recipe and found a website via my Yahoo! search that provided a website that led me to your recipe.

I’m planning to make the bread with one of my grandsons next week, and can hardly wait to see how that goes! Thank you for sharing it!

Hi, Janet. I’m glad you found the recipe here and I hope you enjoy making it as much as we did. My request to be asked about my photos isn’t about personal recipe use at all. I’ve had several instances of my photos being taken and used on other blogs as their own, and even in people’s etsy shops to sell recipes. I’m more than happy for you to save the recipes I post and use them in your own kitchen! :)
    Merry Christmas!

Noticed your request that people ask before they borrow a photo.

Does this apply to repinning your posts on Pinterest?

I’ve heard rumbles about copyright protection and what not. Honestly, my legal opinion is that it isn’t a violation to repin.

But, as you note, it’s nice to ask. So, do you want every Pinner to ask before they pin anything?

Jen – My request about asking before borrowing photos isn’t related to Pinterest. I’ve run into a few dishonest sorts on etsy and other blogs who think nothing of taking a photo and using it to sell recipes or as their own. I also love Pinterest and am happy to see my blog pop up there. Pin away! It’s a great resource as long as people are remembering to link back to the original. Thanks very much for the question.

I am an intern at the food and nutrition blog Abbey’s Kitchen by Registered Dietitian, Abbey Sharp, and we are doing a round up of healthy recipes featuring blueberries. We would love if we could include your recipe for “Blueberry frozen yogurt” in our round up. We simply would be using the photo from the blog post, and the recipe title and then would hyperlink to your original blog post with your blog name and include a nutrition breakdown of the recipe (that we do). We will NEVER re-print your recipe on the blog- always just hyperlink to your website to ensure traffic returns to your website. We may also share a compilation of photos from the blog post on social media to promote it. Please just confirm you’re okay with this and if in the future we can share your content without having to constantly ask.
    Thanks so much!
